Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is your typical process for starting to work with a new wedding

or event client?

A. I listen very carefully and mindfully as you tell me your objectives for your event.
I do not see your event as a showcase for myself. My purpose is to help you make
your event accomplish everything YOU want, whether it is to create a day of love and
memories for your wedding or family party ... an opportunity for learning and connection
for your clients or employees ... or a feeling of community and aloha at your public event.

Q. What background or experience do you have that relates to your work?

A. Over the years I have hosted more than 300 events of every size and just about every type imaginable. My added experience as a newscaster, on-air personality and commercial voice talent at 94.7 KUMU; print, TV and online journalist; high school teacher; event planner; public relations professional; and dancer and actress, all contribute to a rich skill set to work for you and your special event!

Q. How did you get started doing this type of work?

A. My family runs craft expos, where we welcome hundreds of crafters and tens of thousands of shoppers, and my mother always hated talking on the microphone. So back when I was 18, she ‘forced’ me to start making all the announcements. Thus began my public-speaking career!

Q. What types of customers have you worked with?

A. I have worked with every type of client you can think of: engaged couples, event planners, new parents, busy families, corporate clients, politicians, musicians, pageant organizers, parade directors, shopping centers, public relations firms, you name it. I think my success has come largely from taking pride in being diligent, flexible, easy to work with, glad to pitch in with literally anything that is needed (I've even picked up forgotten lei, and sewn buttons on pants minutes before weddings!). Most importantly, I try to stay focused on my clients' wants and desires, and their objectives for the event, and always coming with a sense of aloha.

Q. Describe a recent project you are proud of.

A. One event that I’ve been hired to emcee every year for four years running now is the Moverversary — the yearly celebration banquet for the fitness company Team Move. I’m proud of the varied ways I’ve been able to respond to their needs: helping with social media publicity, for instance; planning games, icebreakers and event activities; and getting to know the company and its leaders well so that I may effectively represent them onstage.

Q. What do you enjoy about the work you do?

A. As one of only a handful of female emcees for weddings and events in Hawaii, I feel that I bring a unique and sincere sense of warmth and caring for my client and audience. Every event I have the honor of hosting is extremely special to me, because I know your event is deeply special to you and the people you care about.

Q. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

A. My pricing is extremely reasonable compared with other professionals with my level of experience and skill. I also am open to finding ways to fit your budget and needs. Registered tax-exempt organizations and schools should ask about my special discounts! And all clients should ask about other free additions that I include in your contract. :)

Q. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A.  Choosing and hiring an emcee is one of the most important things you can do for the success of your event. Select one based on qualifications and experience. Then have an initial conversation either on the phone or in person to find out if that person is a good fit for you. You'll be glad you did. The quality of an emcee can make or break your event.

Q. What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

A.  What are your goals and vision for your event? What do you want your guests to feel and remember? And as for this person you may hire as the emcee, does she understand what you want, and can she execute it? (The answer, when it comes to me, is, of course, YES! ;)
